Osteoarthritis & healthy ageing
Osteoarthritis (OA) is the most common form of arthritis, affecting more than 1.8 million people in Australia. OA can present as a painful, stiff joint and is common in weight bearing joints including knees, hips and the spine. Hands-on treatment may help to manage your pain and stiffness and there is high-level evidence showing that exercise is successful in decreasing pain and improving function and mobility.
Exercise Physiologists (EP) can work with you to determine the ideal exercise program for you that will challenge your body without aggravating your symptoms. This approach involves a detailed assessment with our EP who can then create an exercise program that will help you. This can then often be done at home with minimal equipment or done in-house in our gym with more rigorous guidance; some people love this as it makes them more accountable. Your program is then altered over time, providing further challenges that will keep you motivated and give you more improvement.
Living an active and fulfilling life is an aim that we will want to strive for and our team can also help you with many problems associated with chronic disease and ageing. In particular, our EP’s can help you through tailoring exercise programs such as:
maintaining the strength of not just your muscles but your bones as well
falls prevention through working on balance, strength and controlled movement
Management and prevention of chronic diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, and cardiorespiratory diseases
